3rd Edition of SHS Renewable Energy Challenge Set to Take Off. Timelines Out

The Renewable Energy Challenge Competition for Senior High Schools across the country is back in grand style. The 3rd edition of the competition is due to kick off in May across the various regions as we count down to the grand finale.
The Ghana Energy Commision in partnership with the Ghana Education Service has released the timelines for this year’s competition.
With the competition gaining so much prominence due to its wide publicity and lucrative nature, all is set for another exciting competition.

The aim of the competition is to develop the research skills of Senior High School students and promote technological innovation in renewable energy and energy efficiency. It is also to instill in students a passion for solving renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change-related issues.

The competition aims at selecting the schools with the best projects. The Grand Finale of the Senior High Schools Renewable Energy Challenge will be held at the Accra International Conference Centre in October, 2022, as part of the 8th Ghana Renewable Energy Fair.

The Regional Competitions will commence in May and end in July.

Ashanti Region schools were not part of the first edition but came back strongly during the 2nd edition with Aboaso based Gyaama Pensan SHTS winning the Regional Competition and crowning it with the national competition in grand style.
With Ashanti Region getting set for another historic event, the stage is set for schools to demonstrate their research capabilities in this renewable energy contest.

This year’s contest is under the theme “Clean Cooking and Food Processing Using Renewable Energy Technologies”

Ashanti-Region-based Gyaama Pensan Senior High Technical School (SHTS) Thursday, October 14, 2021, was adjudged the winner of the 2021 edition of the Energy Commission’s Senior High Schools’ Renewable Energy Challenge.

Mfanstiman Girls’ Senior High School placed second in the Challenge, while Navrongo Senior High School came third.

The fourth, fifth and sixth positions went to Mamfe Methodist Girls Senior High School, Accra Technical Training Centre and Acherensua Senior High School, respectively.
