The National Teaching Council(NTC) is mandated by law to regulate the teaching profession in Ghana.

NTC provides standards to guide teacher preparation and practice and promoting world class teaching and learning.

I HAVE COMPLETED MY TEACHER LICENSE REGISTRATION, WHEN WILL I GET MY LICENSE?

Once you have completed your registration, you will have to wait for NTC administrators to go through your information provided and decide to either activate your account or send you a message on problems with your application. On activation of your account, you will receive your license number via SMS instantly.

WHAT IS CPD?

Continuous Professional Development:
It refers to the process by which teachers maintain and enhance their knowledge, skills and experiences as they work after any initial training.

AFTER LICENSING WHAT NEXT?

After licensing, teachers are required to:
1. Undergo Continuous Professional Development programs to earn credit points
2. Build portfolio
3. Adhere to prescribed Standards and Professional Ethics
4. Renew license

HOW WILL TEACHERS WITH FOREIGN QUALIFICATIONS BE LICENSED?

Teachers with foreign qualifications:

Must have submitted certificates for verification and confirmation by National Accreditation Board (NAB) before applying for the license
Must pass the GTLE
Must have gone through induction programme

After these conditions are met, full license will then be issued

HOW DO I REGISTER AS AN IN-SERVICE TEACHER?

Requirements to register on TPG for public teachers
An active email address (create one if you do not have one)
SSNIT number
Staff ID
Scanned passport picture for upload
Scanned evidence of professional training- Teachers cert A, Diploma, PGDE, B.Ed, M.Ed, M.Phil, PhD (as PDF, PNG or JPEG)
Scanned first appointment letter (as PDF, PNG or JPEG)

WHAT ARE PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS AND ETHICS?

They are set of guidelines and ethics that govern the conduct of all professional teachers. The National Teachers’ Standards specifies competences required by individual teachers at the various levels.

WHAT GOES INTO CPD?

Mandatory programmes:
These are essential trainings that every teacher is expected to attend through Professional Learning Community (PLC) programmes such as SBI, CBI, DBI.

Rank based programmes (Community of Practice)
These are training programmes expected to be attended by teachers in specific ranks, classes, subjects or positions to deal with specific issues in relation to their assigned roles. (School Improvement Officers, Heads of Schools, HODs, Directors of Education, Subject Teachers etc)

Recommended programmes
These are trainings which are recommended by NTC based on needs assessment.

Portfolio building:
It is a detailed record of training programmes and activities attended by a teacher within a specified period, that is, between the issuance of the license to its renewal.

WILL APPLICANTS PAY FOR LICENSING AND REGISTRATION?

There are legally approved fees for Ghana Teacher Licensure Examinations, licensing and registration as well as renewals.

WHO IS AN IN-SERVICE TEACHER?

An In-service teacher is a teacher who has successfully completed initial teacher preparation and is teaching in either private or public schools in Ghana at the Pre-Tertiary level before September 2018.

WHAT DO WE DO AT NTC?

The National Teaching Council (NTC) is an agency of the Ministry of Education mandated by the Education Act 2008 (ACT 778) to promote teacher professionalism in Ghana.
