G.E.S District and Regional Transfers; Process & Requirements-2023/2024

Every year Teachers within the Ghana Education Service decide to move from one area to another due to various reasons. The movement from one location to another is done through a process. Teachers have been asking how Transfers are done and which documents are needed to apply for transfers. Depending on which location within the country a teacher intends to move to, the transfer could be considered as Internal or Intra-District Transfer, Inter-District or Inter-Regional Transfer or Re-posting.

Re-postings normally commence in August every year but may vary according directives from the Director General.

This write-up seeks to give clarity on how re-posting may be effected and the processes involved as well the necessary requirements.

Requirements:

1. Number of years served:
2. A teacher should have served in a District/Municipal/Metro for at least three (3) years to qualify for reposting to another District or Region.
3. DEPRIVED AREAS
4. A teacher who has served in a deprived District/Municipal for two (2) years also qualifies for re-posting.
5. ATTACHMENTS

Certificates, last promotion letter, pay slip, bank clearance and personal record form signed by the District/ Municipal/Metro Director should be attached to both assurance and release applications.

• APPROVAL

a. INTRA DISTRICT:

 That is reposing from school A to School B in the same district should be approved by the District Director eg. Adwoa Nyarko teaches at Odorkor M/A JHS Ga East Municipal. She has applied for reposting in the same district. Then the approval should be given by Ga East Municipal Director.

b. INTER DISTRICT:

That is reposting from one district to another district in the same Region, the Regional Director shall give the approval. Eg Godfred Odame teaches at R/C Primary in Ga West Municipal. He wishes to move to Accra Metro next academic year.

STEPs:

1. Godfred should apply to the Metro Director, Accra, for an Assurance.
2. The Metro Director, Accra, checks his/her vacancy list before he issues an assurance or otherwise.
3. Let’s assume that Godfred has received an assurance letter from Metro Director.

Godfred shall use the assurance letter issued by Metro Director to apply for a release to the Regional Director, Greater Accra, through the Municipal Director, Ga West.

• The District Director, Ga West Municipal, give his/her recommendation and forward the application to the Regional Director.
• It should be noted that the Regional Director informs the Municipal Director  Ga West of her/his approval for the teacher to move before she/he releases Godfred.

• Godfred should remain at post till the beginning of the next academic year which will hopefully be in January.
• It should be noted that the Regional Directors inform the Metro Director   of his/her approval for the teacher to move before Godfred moves to Accra Metro

• The District Director ensure that the teacher remains at post till the beginning of the next academic.
• The headteacher/headmaster should ensure that there is proper handing over of the school items in her possession before her release letter is given to her.
• The teacher shall report to the new Director (in this case Metro Director,-Accra for further directives.

c. INTER REGIONAL REPOSTING

That is reposting from one region to another region in Ghana. The Director General gives approval. Eg Grace Antwi teaches at Asempaye M/A Primary in the Asante Akim South Municipality in the Ashanti Region. She wishes to be reposted to any school in the Mim District in the Ahafo Region next academic year.

STEPs:

1. Grace should apply to the District Director, Mim, for an Assurance.
2. The District Director, Mim, check his/her vacancy list before he issues an assurance or otherwise.
3. Let’s assume that Grace has received an assurance letter from Mim District Director.
4. Grace shall use the assurance letter issued by Mim District Director to apply for a release to the Director General through the Regional Director, Ashanti, through the Municipal Director, Asante Akim South.
5. Municipal Director, Asante Akim South, gives his/her recommendation and forward the application to the Regional Director. The Regional Director, Ashanti, shall also give her recommendation and forward the application to the Director General for his approval or otherwise.
6. If the Director General gives approval for the reposting of the teacher to Ahafo Region, before the end of this academic year, Grace should remain at post till the beginning of the next academic which will hopefully be in January.
7. It should be noted that the Regional Director inform the Municipal Director  Asante Akim South of the Director General’s approval for the teacher to move before he/she releases the Grace.
8. The District Director ensures that the teacher remains at post till the beginning of the next academic.
9. The headteacher/headmaster should ensure that there is proper handing over of the school items in her possession before her release letter is given to her.
10. The teacher reports to the new Regional Director (in this case Ahafo Regional Director for further directives.

DECRALATION OF VACANCIES

Before the reposting begins, District/Municipal/Metro declare vacancies in their Kg, Primary JHS and SHSs to their Regional Directors to be forwarded to Headquarters.

DEPRIVED SCHOOLS

District/Municipal/Metro also submit the list of deprived schools in their respective jurisdictions to the Regional Directorates.

These help Regional Directorates make informed decision on the various applications.
