In order to enhance teaching and Learning and to test Students seriousness in academics, the Management f the University of Ghana has developed a System called The GRADING SYSTEM. The University of Ghana, Legon grading system is a system that has been set to rank students graduating from the university in every academic year.

This system serves as a criteria that sets students into the different class of degree ranging from first class, second class (upper and lower division) or pass.


In this Article, we are going to show you the University of Ghana, UG Legon grading system and how to calculate your Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) and know your class of degree.

Students performance in a Courses shall be Graded as follows:

Letter Grade Marks Grade Point Interpretation

A 80 – 100 4.0 Outstanding
B+ 75 – 79 3.5 Very Good
B 70 – 74 3.0 Good
C+ 65 – 69 2.5 Fairly Good
C 60 – 64 2.0 Average
D+ 55 – 59 1.5 Below Average
D 50 – 54 1.0 Marginal Pass
E 45 – 49 0.5 Unsatisfactory
F 0 – 44 0 Fail
