MASTER OF ARTS INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

Duration: The Programme is full time for 2 semesters (12 months)

Entry requirements: A good first degree. Candidates would submit to a selection interview.

Courses

The courses for this degree cover 12 months from the date of registration. Students are required to take a minimum of four courses, each of which carries 3 credits in each of the two semesters. Students are also offered a twenty-week course in Research Methodology. Part-time students will take the course over 24 months from the date of registration.

Candidates should choose, at least, TWO electives. *Students from MFARI must choose INTA 612.

REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION

A). To graduate, the student should have covered a period of twelve (12) and twenty-four (24) Calendar months from the date of registration for full tipart-timert time students respectively.  The candidate is expected to pass all mandatory core, prescribed/required and elective courses before qualifying for graduation. Students must note that in partial fulfillment of the Master’s programogramme, a twenty thousand (20,000) words dissertation (not exceeding eighty (80) pages excluding bibliography, figures, tables, photographs and appendices), which earns twelve (12) credits, must be submitted to the School of Graduate Studies through the Centre for examination by internal and external assessors.

Also, it is mandatory for candidates to take and pass the required Language Proficiency course in one foreign language offered at the Center/LECIAD with a grade score of, at least, (C–50%) or better.  Similarly, students coming from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration (MFARI) must take Public Administration, Ghanaian Foreign Policy, and Regionalism and Integration.

At the end of the first semester and second semester of Year 1 of full-time and part-time students respectively, each student is required to undertake a Pedagogical Study Tour to some historical sites as well as domestic and international institutions, where necessary. This is intended to enhance the students’ understanding and knowledge in transnational interactions and diplomatic engagements between Ghana and other countries. It is anticipated that the tour would give students the practical experience of the nature of inter-state relations, thereby inspiring or deepening their interest in international affairs and diplomacy.
