A Physician Assistant is a health care practitioner who works in collaboration with or under the (indirect) supervision of a physician.
A physician assistant is a higher-ranking official than a nurse or a medical assistant. They are specially trained to work in a variety of healthcare facilities. There are some universities and institutions in Ghana that offer degrees in physician assistantship.
However, this article is about the KNUST physician assistantship – cut-off point, admission requirement, how to apply, and tuition fees.
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), offers BSc. Physician Assistantship. The degree is a 4-year program and below are the entry requirements for the Physician Assistantship program.
KNUST Cut-Off Point For Physician Assistantship
Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is a science and technology university founded by Kwame Nkrumah in Ghana. Cut-off points are used to determine who is admitted to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, as well as which course they are offered.
The cut-off point for BSc. Physician Assistantship offered at KNUST for the academic year 2022/2023 is 08

- GHANAIAN APPLICANTS – GH¢ 220.00.
- FOREIGN APPLICANTS – USD 150.00.
Admission/Entry Requirements
SSCE/WASSCE Applicants
CREDITS in the THREE (3) Core Subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated
Science), and CREDIT passes in THREE (3) Elective subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.
‘A-Level Applicants
Five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level credits including English Language and Mathematics plus three (3) ‘A-Level passes in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics. Applicants must also have a pass in General Paper.
Mature Applicants
Applicants must be at least 25 years at the time of applying.
EITHER FIVE (5) Credits at GCE ‘O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics.
OR
WASSCE/SSSCE credit passes in THREE (3) Core Subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus THREE (3) Elective subjects (Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics).
Graduates
Bachelor’s degree holders in the Life Sciences (Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Medical Laboratory Technology, Herbal Medicine and Sports and Exercise Science,) will be placed in year two (2) of the programme whilst applicants with BSc. Nursing will be placed in year three (3) of the programme after a successful interview. Successful applicants will be exempted from some courses already studied.
Other Applicants
Mature applicants (aged 25 years and above) who are holders of diplomas in Physiotherapy, Dental Assistantship, Medical Assistants, Laboratory Technician programme, Pharmacy Technician programme and the Registered General Nursing Diploma with at least three (3) years post qualification experience and a good pass at the diploma level may be admitted to the first year of the programme after a successful interview. Such candidates may also be required to satisfy the University’s general requirements for admission to degree programmes.
How To Apply
Note: To begin the KNUST admission application procedures, you must purchase an e-voucher from authorized banks nationwide if you have not purchased one yet.
- Then Visit the official KNUST Physician Assistantship Admission Portal: https://apps.knust.edu.gh/admissions/
- Then click on the “apply online” button
- Afterwards, you will be redirected to the login page
- Then enter your serial number and pin on the e-voucher card you purchased
- Afterwards, Click the login button to begin filling out the Online KNUST admission application form in stages
- Then fill out the Application form and attach all required documents and passport picture (must be JPG or JPEG format and not exceed 20KB)
- After filling out the Online KNUST admission application form, click the ‘Preview’ or ‘Accept’ button to either preview the details you entered or accept them. (You can as well Click on the ‘Edit button to make changes to your application or click the ‘Save and Continue later button’ to save your application form to return later to continue the application.)
- Then Click ‘Submit and Print Confirmation’ to submit the online application form
- Afterwards, click the ‘Print’ button to Print your Confirmation Page / filled online application form.
- Finally Click on the “Log out” button.
Note: Keep your printed Confirmation Page safe as You will require your Reference Number shown on the page to check your admission status and print your admission letter.
Tuition Fees
The tuition for KNUST varies every year. The tuition fee for BSc. Physician Assistantship for the academic year 2022/2023 is GHC 2072.70
