Update on Number of Students who Have Done Self Placement; MoE

More than 39,000 students who sat for last year’s BECE as of Sunday, March 27, 2022, had visited the Computerized School Selection & Placement System to do self-placement, the spokesman for the Ministry of Education has disclosed.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO), Kwasi Kwarteng speaking to Accra-based Adom TV monitored by EducationWeb said measures have been put in place to enable more students to select their preferred school at the self-module.

“Analytics from the management of the Computerized School Selection & Placement System (CSSPS) indicates as of last weekend that the portal was opened a total of 39,000 students have done self-placement,” Kwarteng told Adom.

The Ministry of Education late Saturday released the 2021 computer school placement. A total of 555,353 prospective students out of the 572,167 who sat for the 2021 BECE qualified for postings into various public secondary schools.

In a statement announcing the release of the school postings, the Education Ministry said a total of 367,811 students who partook in the national examination administered by WAEC secured automatic school placement.

“A total of 187,542 qualified candidates will have to do self-placement to select from available schools since they could not be matched with any of their choices,” the Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum led Ministry said in the press release on Friday.

In a separate interview with a sister station, the spokesman said the Ghana Education Service (GES) in due course will announce a new school reopening date for BECE graduates yet to be admitted as first-year secondary school students.

“The April 4, 2022 date on the 2022 academic calendar is provisional. The Ghana Education Service and its stakeholders will soon give details on the date for the next batch of Free SHS students to report to the school,” Mr Kwasi stated.

Mr Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah, the National Executive Director of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) on behalf of parents has petitioned the Ministry of Education (MoE) to extend the first-year students reopening date.
