Athletics: Tamale Hosts 5 Nations As 48 SHS Athletics for Ghana U18 & U20 Championship
Ghana will play host to four other neighboring countries in a very important athletics competition for U20 and U18 athletes in a five-nation Athletics Invitational Championship.
The special competition scheduled for the Northern Regional Capital Tamale is scheduled for the 12th to 14th of April, 2023.
The competition will be used as a preparatory tournament ahead of the All-Africa Youth Athletics Competition to be hosted by Zambia in Lussaka on the 28th of April to the 3rd of May, 2023.
The Tamale preparatory competition will see both U18 and U20 boys and girls compete in 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 4 * 100m, 4*400m, Long Jump, High Jump and Javelin.
The nine event competition will see neighboring countries Togo, Benin, Ivory Coast and Burkina Fasso battle it out with Ghana for honours. Most importantly, the competition affords the five nations to assess their readiness for the Lussaka games in two weeks time after the competition.
Ghana will be represented by 10 Girls in the U20 category while 10 boys will represent the nation in the boys category for the U20.
The athletes were selected from the just ended Special Athletics competition organized by the Ghana Athletics Association, the National Sports Authority and the Ghana Education Service at thew Baba Yara Stadium for selected Senior High Schools in Ghana a week ago.
In the U18 category, 14 Girls will represent Ghana while 14 boys willl be doing honours for the Nation.
The Tamale Sports Stadium will hosts all the events.
