Presby University College admits more females

Admission of female students at the Presbyterian University College, Ghana (PUCG) outstripped males by about 67 per cent this academic year.

Out of the 702 students who enrolled for various programmes of study, 419 were females while 283 were males.

The President of the PUCG, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, made this known at the 19th matriculation ceremony at the Asante Akyem campus of the institution at Agogo.

The university has a policy to use outreach programmes and other related initiatives to get more females enrol in its programmes and, which is paying off.

Invigilation

Prof. Owusu said beginning this academic year, the PUCG will conduct examinations with students as peer invigilators.

The peer invigilation will replace the traditional invigilation by lecturers.

He advised the students to comport themselves during the examinations by eschewing all forms of cheating.

Prof. Owusu called on the government to support educational institutions, especially private ones through the provision and distribution of laptops and tablets to students, and expand affordable and reliable internet access to schools in the rural areas as part of the digitisation agenda.

“For us in PUCG, I wish to announce that the progress of work on the Campus Internet Infrastructure upgrade is ongoing. The Okwahu Campus is already connected to the Ghana Academic and Research Network (GARNET).

“ All the infrastructure work to ensure the connection of the Asante Akyem campus to GARNET is complete. We, therefore, expect the full connection to start from next month. This will ensure a drastic improvement in internet connection on campus,” he said.

He said very soon, it would be the turn of the Akuapem, the Tema and the Kumasi campuses to benefit from the facilities.

Prof. Owusu indicated that preparations were far advanced for the start of the School of Engineering at the Obo facility which was donated by the Obohene, Nana Yeboah Afari Obuagyan II.

This year, he said, the chief and the elders of the community provided a scholarship package for 10 applicants to pursue the BSc. Computer Engineering programme.
