The University of Ghana access Course in the SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY (SNM) is a course purposely meant to equip subsidiary Nurses, Midwives, and Community Health Nurses who are already holders of certificates and auxiliary Identification numbers (AIN) or Professional Identification numbers (PIN) in Post-basic Midwifery from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Ghana.

The University of Ghana access Course Programs at the School of Nursing and Midwifery is offered to both domestic and international applicants who hold certificates in Enrolled Nursing (Nurse Assistant Clinical [NAC]) and Community Health Nursing (Nurse Assistant Preventive [NAP]) to enable them to roll into a 3/4-year BSc Nursing or a 4-year BSc Midwifery Modular/Sandwich program.

The Nursing and Midwifery access course is also purposely meant for individual applicants who do not have traditional educational qualifications. With that, access to courses can help you meet the entry requirements for the University of Ghana application. They are subject-specific, and nursing and social care access courses are widely available. Such access courses are mostly offered by local colleges and are often flexible and part-time. Being employed as a Health/Social Care Support Worker can be an advantage in developing your care skills while completing the access course.

The Duration for the completion of an access course for nurses at the University of Ghana is a Minimum of One to two years. But the entry requirements for admission are mostly set by the School’s administration according to the academic standards set by the college. You must be 19 or over, on 1st September in the academic year the course starts.

The University of Ghana access Course is run by the School of Continuing and Distance Education of the College of Education at all its Learning Centers across the country. It is of very great importance that applicants take note of the fact that, tutorials will be held online via the University of Ghana Learning Management System (SAKAI).

The fee demanded by the University of Ghana Management for registration of the Access Course and the Payment of the Entrance Examination is GH¢450.00. Please note that the fee is non-refundable. Payment for these should be made into University of Ghana Learning Centre Account number 1441002010444 at any branch of ECOBANK Ghana Limited.

Applicants should register online at the University of Ghana Website or through https://apply.ug.edu.gh/admissions/mature. Only applicants who pass the entrance examination will be eligible to purchase the e-voucher to access the University of Ghana online application form.

Prospective applicants must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana and be in good standing. They must have worked for a minimum of three years. International applicants must show evidence of registration with their home Professional Regulatory Bodies.

Location

Applicants from non-English speaking countries must also show evidence of English Language proficiency. Courses to be offered include the following: English Language, Core Mathematics Integrated Science, Introductory General Physics, Introductory General Chemistry, Introductory Biology Admission into BSc Nursing and Midwifery Programs.

Candidates who obtain a pass mark of a minimum of 50% (equivalent to C5) or better in all the above-mentioned courses may apply for admission into the BSc Nursing or BSc Midwifery program. Successful candidates will be admitted to levels 100 and 200 respectively. Male applicants are encouraged to apply.

The period of Access Course Program will run from July through August during the Academic Year for eight (8) weeks. The program will run during weekends only, from Saturdays to Sundays.

  • The program will be located at the following places:

Tamale Campus, Bolga Campus, Wa Campus a, and Royal Ann College of Health Sciences, Kumasi (UDS affiliate institution). SCHOOL OF MEDICINE (SoM)• 6-Year Medicine (MBChB Preparatory Fee Paying program).

This program is for WASSCE candidates with Elective Science subjects aggregate 12 or better and also Graduates with Bachelor of Science degree programs (2nd Class Upper Division or better) including but not limited to Anatomy, Physiology, Human Biology, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Nursing, Microbiology, Laboratory Sciences, Pharmacy, Nutrition, Biotechnology, Physician Assistantship, and Pharmacology can apply.

All fee-paying applicants would be required to go through a 4-week preparatory program in some selected subjects to qualify for admission.

NB: Candidates should EITHER choose the ‘Mature’ option for WASSCE applicants OR the ‘HND/Diploma’ option for Graduates (BSc) applicants when filling the online application form.
