THE UNIVERSITY OF GHANA GPA GRADING SYSTEM
Grading in education is the process of applying standardized measurements for varying levels of achievements in a course. Grades can be assigned as letters, as a range, as a percentage, or as a number out of a possible total. In some countries, grades are averaged to create a grade point average.
Grade Point Average
Grade Point Average (GPA) is the measure used to summarize your academic achievement at Griffith. After the publication of final grades each trimester, your Program and Career GPA are calculated and will be used by the University to inform decisions and determine your class in graduation.
Your GPA is the weighted average for all your course grades and is calculated across your total period of study in your program and career (i.e.: it includes all programs of enrolment at the non-award, undergraduate or postgraduate career).The weighted average reflects the relative contribution made by all the courses you have undertaken based on their credit value.
Your GPA is calculated in two steps:
The grade awarded for each course is multiplied by the credit value for each course. The aggregate score is divided by the total number of credits for all courses completed in the defined period of study.

- First Class – the range of FGPA is 3.60 to 4.00
- Second Class, Upper Division – the range of FGPA is 3.00 to 3.59
- Second Class, Lower Division – the range of FGPA is 2.00 to 2.99
- Third Class – the range of FGPA is 1.50 to 1.99 Pass – the range of FGPA is 1.00 to 1.49 Fail – the range of FGPA is 0.00 to 0.99
