George Grant University of Mines and Technology is located in Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana, the university was formerly the Tarkwa Technical Institute which was later changed to the Tarkwa School of Mines.

Before being granted the presidential charter on 12th November, 2004, UMaT was affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Sciences and Technology (KNUST).

With the aim of producing world-class professionals in the mining, petroleum and technology fields, the university has a wide range of undergraduate programmes to equip students who want to go into the technology and mining field.
