The GIMPA Business School offers a Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons) Business Administration programme with a specialization in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Human Resource Management, Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Marketing and Project Management.

Admission Requirements for Degrees

SSSCE Candidates
Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.

WASSCE Candidates:
Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.

General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level candidates:
Passes in three (3) GCE Advanced Level subjects (at least one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English, Mathematics, a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Art’s subject (for science students).

Admission of Higher National Diploma (HND) candidates to first-degree programmes:
Applicant must have graduated with a good HND certificate (at least second class lower
division). In addition, the applicant must have acquired a minimum of two (2) years post-HND qualification working experience. Other diploma qualifications from elsewhere assessed to be equivalent to HND by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) may be similarly considered.

Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) candidates:
Passes in three (3) subjects (at least one of the passes should be Grade D or better).
Also, the applicant must have credit passes in five (5) subjects including English, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE)

Foreign Qualifications:
All foreign qualifications would be referred to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission to tertiary institutions in Ghana in accordance with the National Accreditation Board Act, 2007 [Act 744 (2(2b)].Note should be taken however that the American SAT, TOEFL etc. cannot in themselves be acceptable as entry qualifications into GIMPA.

Professional and other entry qualifications:
All professional certificates and any other qualification beyond the ones specified above
would be referred to the National Accreditation Board for the establishment of their
equivalences, to determine their eligibility for admission to university. Note that the Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) qualification cannot, in itself, be used for admission into tertiary education institutions and programmes in Ghana.
WASSCE Awaiting Results:
Candidates who write the May/June WASSCE examinations are given the opportunity to apply for provisional admission into the daytime (8:00 am -3:00 pm) 4-year bachelor’s degree programmes.

Transfer from Other Universities:
Students from other universities who wish to transfer to GIMPA have the opportunity to do so. They must be in good standing from their former university. The application should include applicant’s SSSCE, WASSCE or GCE Ordinary and Advanced levels results, and a transcript from the transferring university.

Admission Requirement for MBA in Hospitality Management
A Bachelor’s Degree from any approved/recognized university with at least a Second Class Lower Division plus at least two(2) years post qualification work experience; Or

Applicants with degree classifications below Second Class Lower Division, plus GIMPA’s Post graduate Certificate/Diploma qualifications and at least two (2) years post-qualification work experience.

Bachelor of Public Administration

The Bachelor of Science in Public Administration is an existing undergraduate programme designed to provide students with the opportunity to further their knowledge and understanding of Public Administration in Ghana

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • An aggregate score of 24 (SSSCE) or 36 (WASSCE) or better in six subjects including core mathematics,core english, core science or social studies in the West African Examination Council(WAEC) Senior Secondary School Certicate Examination are considered for an admission into the first year of the programme.
  • Prospective applicants with G.C.E. “A” Level with 3 passes and a pass in general paper; RSA Stage II with passes in 5 subjects including English Language and Mathematics or RSA Stage III with passes in 3 subjects including English Language and Mathematics; Diplomas: Diploma in Business Studies (DBS); Diplomas from Ghana Institute of Journalism(GIJ), Universities, and Diploma from other recognised tertiary institutions, Technical Certificates such as Full Technical Certificate or Level II, Mechanical ENGINEering Part III, and Electrical ENGINEering Part III.
  • Other Post-Secondary Certificates such as Teacher’s Certificate “A” and Nursing are considered and accepted as meriting placement into the second year of the BPA programme.

There is no minimum age for admission to undergraduate programme of the school of public service and governance. However mature applicants must be 25 years and above before they can apply. Currently, prospective students are admitted to first (Level 100) and second (Level 200) years of the programme based on the above listed qualifications.

RESEARCH COMPONENTS

Students are required to undertake courses in business research methods and project report writing. These modules are to equip students with the requisite tools and knowledge to undertake project work in relevant area of discipline. Students will work in groups/teams to work on industry-relevant projects

QUALIFICATION OF AWARD OF BACHELOR’S DEGREE

To qualify for an award of the GIMPA Bachelor’s Degree a participant must earn a minimum of 120 credits and obtain a CGPA of at least 1.75. A participant must pass in each subject. The pass mark in an individual subject is 45 percent.

MASTER’S IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA)

The GIMPA Masters in Business Administration (MBA) is a professional degree. The MBA programme is designed to provide a strong and advanced education in business management and also to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary for the attainment of a competitive edge in Business Administration. The programme is geared towards graduates with little to moderate professional working experience after their bachelors’ degrees or professional certificates. The focus is on developing managers with decision-making abilities. As such, there is much more emphasis on using the case study and other problem-solving tools. Unlike the EMBA, this programme allows for in-depth specializations as most entry to middle-level managers focus on a functional area in terms of their employment responsibilities.

MASTER’S IN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

Supply Chain Management

  • A Bachelors Degree from an approved/recognized university with a second class lower division minimum, plus two years post-graduation professional experience.
  • A lower class degree, then five years post-graduation professional experience plus additional postgraduate or professional certificate/education such as the GIMPA postgraduate or certificate in business administration.
    OR
  • Professional qualifications such as ACCA, ICA, ICSA, GIPS, CIB, plus three years post-qualification experience.
  • Applicants with degree classifications below second class lower division and/or narrowly-focused professional qualifications should enroll in the GIMPA Diploma in Business Administration (DBA) programmes at the Business School to enhance their chances of gaining admission.

EXECUTIVE MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (EMBA)

The GIMPA EMBA is a professional degree that is specially designed to equip graduates with the knowledge, attitude and skills required by chief executives and other top-level managers to meet effectively the leadership and managerial challenges they face in their organizations. As such, the programme adopts a generalist perspective that is relevant to those at senior management ranks and does not provide for specialization in any functional area of business. Some specific characteristics of the programme are as follows:

  • A Bachelors Degree (from an approved/recognized university or equivalent professional qualification with requisite experience).

  • Applicant should be at least thirty (30) years of age.
  • Applicants with degree classifications below second class lower division and or narrowly focused professional qualifications should enrol in the GIMPA Administration CBA programmes at the Business School to enhance their chances of gaining admission.

MASTER OF RESEARCH IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MRes)

The Master of Research in Business Administration (MRes) is a research-based degree that prepares graduates for academic careers in various functional areas of business at tertiary institutions and in the research departments of organizations. The programme emphasizes the development of skills in understanding theory, the research process and methodology. Graduates of the program are expected to make contributions to the advancement of knowledge of business practices through research, teaching and consulting. It is also designed for those interested in acquiring a doctoral degree in the future.

  • Strong quantitative orientation/background.
  • Second class upper minimum for graduates in business, economics and other social sciences.
  • Second class lower minimum for graduates in mathematics, statistics and typeering related sciences.

  • Expressed interest in teaching at the tertiary level.
  • Sponsorship by a tertiary institution will be an added advantage.
Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma Programmes:

The diploma programme moves beyond the basic concepts introduced in the Certificate in Business Administration to focus on core business functions. The goal is to give students a deeper understanding of key business functions within a firm. Students are encouraged to explore these functional areas in preparation for more advanced career positions.

  • Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Applicants should normally have obtained at the Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration (CBA) and shown excellent performance at the level to be admitted. However, those with degrees in Economics, Commerce and Accounting with working experience may be admitted without the CBA.
  • Applicants should be 25 years and above with at least two (2) years work experience.
  • Applicants who wish to pursue MBA/EMBA with a class lower than a lower degree are advised to take this programme to enhance their chances.

Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration (CBA)

  • Applicants should hold a Bachelors Degree or equivalent professional qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Applicants should be twenty-five (25) years and above with at least one (1) year work experience.
PhD Programmes:

Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration (PhD)

The GIMPA PhD programme is designed to enrich students’ research skills toward facilitating their ability to conduct rigorous academic research with implications for Ghana’s development. The PhD programme model focuses on three basic areas:
• Rigorous training in general research methods as well as those specific to a discipline. This ensures the ability to conduct research at an advanced level. Such training is typically covered in two semesters of coursework and also throughout the programme in substantive seminars and workshops.
• Substantive coursework in a subject area discipline beyond the master’s degree level. This is designed to ensure theoretical, applied and empirical knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline. Such coursework is typically covered in one semester.
• A supervised written thesis that typically takes up to two years to complete.

DOCTOR OF MANAGEMENT

The GIMPA Doctor of Management (DMGT) programme is designed for professional and senior executives with extensive managerial experience who are looking to acquire knowledge that will enable them to transform business practice. It aims at developing scholar-practitioners with superior research and analytical skills that can be applied to critical issues in the world of business. The emphasis is on applied theory and research. As a result, the programme is designed around action
research. Thus, the research approach emphasizes topics that reflect the intersection of theory and contemporary business issues. The programme is a three-year (six-semester) general management, lockstep programme consisting of 12 three-credit courses, 2 two-credit research papers1 two-credit research proposal and a 20 – credit thesis. It requires 62 credits to complete.
