GES Reveals How Much Some Teachers Are Paying for 1 to 3 Bedroom Flat Government Bungalows: Check the Figures

The Spokesperson for the Ghana Education Service Cassandra Twum Ampofo has revealed that audit query to the Service has revealed how much teachers are paying currently for one to three bungalow government accommodation.
Speaking to joy news on news night, Cassandra revealed that audit queries indicated that some teachers are paying 50Gh for three bedroom accommodation, 25Gh cedis for 2 bedroom accommodation and 18Gh for one bedroom accommodation which is way below the recommended payment threshold of 10% of the basic salary.
She further added that GES needed to take action to avoid another query from the Auditor General.
Cassandra indicated that “various audit queries have been issued to the service about the rent payment of staff. In some instances the query revealed that some teachers dont pay at all while those who pay do not pay the recommended amount. The audit queries revealed that some teachers paid 50Gh for three bedroom accommodation, 25Gh cedis for 2 bedroom accommodation and 18Gh for one bedroom accommodation which is way below the recommended payment threshold of 10% of the basic salary.

The Ghana Education Service has clarified that the demand for teachers occupying government bungalows to pay 10% of their basic salaries as rent was at the instance of the Finance Ministry.

Teacher Unions have raised red flags over the issue hoping for a resolution soon.
