GNAT Increases Cancer Fund; How to Apply for the Cancer Fund

Members of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) are bracing themselves up for an increment in their lauded Cancer Fund initiative.

GNAT Executives proposed an increment from Gh2.00 to Gh5.00 to enable the fund cater for more member Cancer patients of the Association which was accepted.
Controller and Accountant General Department have been notified to effect the new deduction accordingly.

The Fund is in collaboration with the Sweden Ghana Medical Centre (SGMC), a state-of- the-art oncology centre or the treatment of cancer. Through sensitization and the many testimonies from members who have undergone treatment and the smiles that it has brought to many families, more people are benefiting from the Fund, now than ever before.

Since its inception in 2014, to December 2020, a total of Six Thousand, Seven Hundred and Seventy-three (6,773) GNAT members have received treatment under the Fund. Out of this number, Three Thousand, Nine Hundred and Fifty-two (3,952) have been fully treated. It is important to note that the cost of treating one cancer patient ranges from Forty-Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC45,000.00) to Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC250,000.00)
 
The communication to members on the increment through a union alert stated
“Dear Comrades, in view of the National Delegates Conference Decision – 2022 and subsequent to the Membership Education on the adjustment of the Cancer Fund from GHC2 to GHC5, kindly be informed that same has been communicated to CAGD, to effect it in APRIL 2022. Thank you for your support. God bless you.

GNAT Members have supported the fund since its inception as the fund continues to support members and their immediate families in their times of need in the fight against the Cancer disease.

How to Apply for GNAT Cancer Fund

In order to benefit from the GNAT Cancer Fund, one has to :

1. You should be a contributor of the GHC5.00 deducted every month

2. You must write a letter to your District GNAT officer requesting for the Cancer Fund

3. You should Attach any other necessary document that will identify you as a teacher and a GNAT member of good standing.
