MIDWIFERY INSTITUTIONS IN GHANA.
WHO IS A MIDWIFE?
A midwife is a nurse who assists women in childbirth.
Being a midwife is a good career most female students dream is becoming.
The following are the requirements needed for one to gain admission into any of the midwifery schools across the country.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS.
Three categories of applicants will be considered for admission to the BSc.Midwifery programme.
1. Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSCE) holders or its equivalent.
2. West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) holders.
3. Diploma in Midwifery/ Nursing (all categories).
- SSSCE holders must have passes (Grades A-D) and WASSCE holders must have credit passes (Grades A1-C6) in the following subjects:
Three Core Subjects: Mathematics, English and Integrated Science
Or Science.
Three Elective Subjects from the following:
i. Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Elective Mathematics
ii. General Agriculture, Physics and Chemistry
iii. Three General Arts Electives
iv. Two Home Economics Electives plus Food and Nutrition
v. Any three of the following Electives: Economics, Management in Living, Food and Nutrition, Chemistry, General Knowledge in Art and French.
- Diploma to Degree Applicants.
Applicants must be holders of a Diploma awarded by a recognised university, with a Final Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.
- Foreign Applicants.
Applicants will have their results verified by NAB/University of Ghana – these should be within the above-specified grades.
There may be selection interviews.

- Three (3) Years for a Diploma Applicant.
- Four (4) Years for a Bachelor’s degree Applicant.
- Two (2) Years for a Diploma to Degree Applicant.
