Many have tried to write history by pioneering the formation of Regional Students Representative Councils for second cycles students for all regions at various points in time but none has come so close than the current Minister of Education, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum and the President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), the indefatigable Emmanuel Yiadom Boakye a.k.a.YB.

History is beckoning, there is almost a new dawn for students activism and advocacy at the SHS level as we count down to the official announcement of the formation of Regional SRCs for all Regions in Ghana.

Since his election as NUGS President, YB has prioritized the formation of Regional Students Representative Council for all Regions for the benefit of all senior high school students.

He made it a Manifesto promise and started the journey with engagements with all stakeholders who matter on how to proceed. That engagement with many stakeholders led to the creation of a special Committee for the formation of RSRCs.

YB took it further as he started his engagement with the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum who also promised his unflinching support to the course. The promise of the Minister was backed with deeds as on his guidance and directives, the NUGS Leader and His HardExecutives started formulating a working document that will later on become the Constitution of RSRCs.

With the approval of the Honourable Minister given and the last hurdle of

official approval and notice from the Ghana Education Service to be cleared, a new era is dawning. All this to the credit and Honour of Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and Emmanuel Yiadom Boakye (YB).

The birth of Regional SRCs will mean that the Greater Accra Regional SRC and the Ashanti Regional Students Representative Council will be joined by fourteen other Regional SRCs under the umbrella of the National Union of Ghana Students.

The Regional SRCs will unite to form a National SRC for second cycles students which will mean that there will be a body seeking the interest and welfare of senior high school students across the country.

When the green light is finally given, the Leadership of NUGS will spell clearly the way forward for the inauguration and leadership structure for the various Regional SRCs.

Hon. Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah

The achievements of the Ashanti and Greater Accra Regional SRCs demonstrate clearly the importance of this concept at the SHS level. Key among the people who had their leadership training on the RSRC platforms include Hon. Dr. John Kumah (Deputy Minister of Finance and MP for Ejisu), Hon. Samuel Okudjato Ablakwa (Ranking Member on Foreign Affairs, MP North Tongu) among many other influential people in public and private practice.

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

With many other regions denied the opportunity of experiencing the leadership grooming the platform offers to students, students across the rank and file of the country are upbeat about the imminent formation of RSRCs.

With the monumental feat of the Ashanti Regional Students Representative in recent times culmination in exciting programs like the Ultimate High School Debate, High School Debate, Creative Canvas Competition, Top 8 Gala and many other exciting opportunities for students, the relevance of RSRC cannot be underestimated.

As we wait for the birth of a new dawn in students activism and advocacy, history beckons as YB led NUGS get set to outdoor their biggest achievement in their administration to the benefit of thousands of senior high students across the country.

Long Live Students Activism and advocacy.
