Adisadel College has been a one-time National Science And Maths Quiz Champion (2016).

Where Is Adisadel College Located?

It is a renowned single sex (male) boarding Senior High School situated on a hill a few miles north of Cape Coast, with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, in the Central Region; one of the sixteen regions in  Ghana.

The all-boys secondary school in the Central Region was set up on 4th January, 1910, under the leadership of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (SPG), an English missionary body tracing its origins to 1701.

It was first named SPG Grammar School by the founders headed by Nathaniel Temple Hamlyn, who was the then Anglican Bishop of Accra. It  was lated renamed St. Nicholas Grammar school in 1924.

The school took up its current name; Adisadel College when it relocated from its present location in early 1936 from downtown Cape Coast.

Why The Name “ADISADEL”?

The name “Adisadel” is a corruption or Anglicisation of “Alice a da” in Fanti or “Alice is asleep”.

Adisadel College is the second-oldest modern educational institutions for boys in Ghana after Mfantsipim School, an archrival which was established by the Methodist Church in 1876.

Adisco is also one of the most prominent institutions of learning in sub-Saharan Africa.

How Many Awards Has Adisadel College Won?

Adisadel College qualified for the finale stage of 2022 National Science and Maths Quiz after beating Kororidua Secondary Technical School and Acherensua Senior High School in the One-Eighth Stage.

In 2016, they were winners of the National Science and Maths Quiz and runner up in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2022.

They were also winners of the 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 editions of the National Hockey Championship.

Adisco was also Winners of the 2021 National Robotics Championship.

Why Are ADISCO Boys Called SANTACLAUSIANS?

They’re called SANTACLAUSIANS because up until 1936 when the school moved to its present campus on Adisadel Hill on the outskirts of the town of Cape Coast, it was known as St. Nicholas’ (Santa Claus) Grammar School and the students as Santaclausians. The name “Santaclausian” has stuck to this day.

Their motto is; Vel Primus Vel Primis (Either the first or with the first).
