National Schools Inspectorate Authority is the full meaning of NaSIA.
It is an agency of the Ministry of Education mandated by Parliament to provide an independent external evaluation of the quality and standards in basic and second cycle educational institutions in the country on a periodic basis.
NaSIA is mandated to Register, License and Inspect both Public and Private Pre-Tertiary Schools in Ghana.

In 2008, the Education Act, 778 established NaSIA formally known as National Inspectorate Board (NIB) with 3 main responsibilities:
Their major responsibilities are:
- To undertake the inspection of schools.
- To evaluate on a periodic basis first and second cycle institutions.
- To set and enforce standards to be observed at the basic and secondary levels in both public and private educational institutions.
NaSIA also supervises the establishment of new schools and the quality of infrastructure and facilities in Pre-Tertiary Educational Institutions (PTEls).
In simple terms, The National Schools Inspectorate Authority, formally known as National Inspectorate Board (NIB), according to the Education Regulatory Bodies Act (ERBA, 2020(ACT1023) has the mandate to:
- Develop;
- Publish;
- Promote;
- License all public and private Pre-Tertiary Schools;
- Enforce the highest quality standards for quality education in public and private Pre-Tertiary Educational Institutions.
