The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) was established following the 2007 amendments as an Advisory Board to the Curriculum Research and Development Division (CRDD) of the Ghana Education Service.
The Curriculum Research Development Division(CRDD) was established on 1st September, 1967 at Saltpond and relocated to the Ministry of Education in the 1970s.
The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) of Ghana is an independent statutory body committed to improving learning experiences and outcomes of all Ghanaian children and young people through world-class school curriculum, assessment, and reporting.
Function Of The The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA)
NaCCA is an entity mandated by the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023) to develop national curriculum and assessment standards for pre-tertiary education institutions other than technical and vocational education and training institutions.
It has 21 members, all of whom are appointed by the President of Ghana in accordance with Article 70 of the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.
The members represent education professionals, employers association, religious and faith-based bodies, business interests, teacher unions, and other educational interests.
NaCCA’s New Curriculum.
The new curriculum for Ghana’s primary schools is standards-based, which is NaCCA’s demonstration
of placing learning at the heart of every classroom and ensuring that every learner receives a quality education.
The Standards Based Curriculum (SBC) by NaCCA addresses the challenges with the previous curriculum and ensures that the content of the curriculum is benchmarked to international standards.
Based on the current education reforms, Basic Education has been redefined to include Senior High School.
