Prempeh College, a well-known NSMQ-seeded school has been trashed out of the competition by Anglican SHS. Prempeh College has been a five-time National Science And Maths Quiz Champion (1994, 1996, 2015, 2017, and 2021).


Where Is Prempeh College Located?


It is a prominent single sex (male) boarding Senior High School situated at Sofoline in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region; one of the sixteen regions in  Ghana. The premier all-boys secondary school in the Ashanti Region was set up by the Asantehene, Sir Osei Tutu Agyeman Prempwh II in 1949.


How Many Awards Has Prempeh College Won?


In 2016, Prempeh College won the Toyota Innovation Award at the International Robofest World Championships held in Michigan, USA beating legends from China, Japan and other industrialised countries.

It was the first school to win the maiden edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz in 1994. The school has also won the National Robotics Inspired Science Education Challenge five times between 2013 and 2021.

Prempeh College is a principal rival to Opoku Ware School, and is the most dreadful rival among senior high schools in Ghana. The topnotch secondary school  has an ongoing affiliation with Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Senior High School.

Students of the school are fondly called AMANADEHYEE, which when translated into English means ‘Royal pair’. It has its roots at the topmost universities in the country, like the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and University of Ghana, Legon.

The school topped matriculation at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2004 with 441 students admitted and in 2012, with 296 students from the college admitted, and is considered to be one of the best secondary schools in Ghana.

It is the only science secondary school to have produced the most doctors. It has religious alliance with the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and the Methodist Church Ghana.

The Anglican Senior High School on the other hand is a co-educational public high school situated in Asem, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It was founded in 1973 and is currently headed by Rev. Canon Senkyiri.

The Ashanti Region 2023 NSMQ Championship final had Anglican SHS beating the prestigious Prempeh College and Simms SHS after a heated contest. Prior to this feat, Anglican SHS had only qualified for the quarter-finals.
