Born on September 7, 1969, Dr. Elsie A.B. Effah Kaufmann is a leading female figure in the science field in Ghana and beyond.
She is a much sought after biomedical engineer, academic administrator, and current host of the prominent content-based national-level quiz competition for senior high schools in Ghana, the National Science And Maths Quiz which is produced by Primetime Limited.
Dr. Elsie was born into a family of educators. She is an alumni of Aburi Senior High School in Ghana, United World College of the Atlantic in Wales, University of Pennsylvania in United States of America and Ghana Communication Technology University also in Ghana.

Dr. Elsie A.B. Effah Kaufmann is an Associate Professor and founding Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Ghana.
She is currently a lecturer and the head of department of Orthotics and Prosthetics in the University of Health and Allied Sciences, HO.
Dr. Elsie Kaufmann became the host of the NSMQ in 2006 succeeding Eureka Emefa Adomako from 2001 to 2005. It must be noted that, Late Dr. Marian Ewurama Addy was the first quiz mistress. Her tenure lasted for seven years; 1993-2000.

- She received the International Women’s Forum Leadership Foundation Fellowship Award in 2011 and the 2017 Impact Africa Summit Laureate for Education in Ghana.
- She is also the first female recipient of the 2018 Golden Torch Award for International Academic Leadership by the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) at the 44th Annual Conference held in the USA.
The 53 year old Biomedical Engineer is currently a divorcee with three amazing children; two females and a male.
