What Is Amnesty?

https://www.oxforddictionary.com defines amnesty as an official pardon for people who have been convicted of political offences.

https://www.merriam-webster.com defines Amnesty as the act of an authority(such as a government) by which pardon is granted to a large group of individuals.

The University of Ghana Amnesty is an opportunity given to final year students whose studentships have elapsed to re-sit outstanding or failed courses and graduate. This covers the 2021/2022, 2022/2023, and 2023/2024 academic years only.

This dispensation is an opportunity for all affected students to satisfy the necessary requirements to enable them graduate.

Basic Qualification.

Applicants should be University of Ghana undergraduate final year students who should have graduated from 2000/2001 to 2018/2019 but have not due to elapsed studentship.

Please find below the application process for Prospective General Amnesty:

1. Registration of Interest:

Applicants are required to register their outstanding/failed courses using the students’ portal (STS). The link to the registration portal

is https://sts.ug.edu.gh/services/login

NOTE: 

  • University of Ghana Student ID Number and MIS Web PIN will be required.
  • Applicants are to visit relevant Departments with proof of registration for information on arrangements regarding registered courses prior to the start of the semester. The schedule for the 2nd semester can be found here: REVISED L100 – L400 ACADEMIC CALENDAR 2021-2022.pdf (ug.edu.gh).
  • Departmental Heads or Examination Officers will help with replacements for phased-out courses.

2. Deadline for Amnesty Course Registration.

The deadline for course registration for the second semester of the 2021/2022 academic year is: Sunday, July 3, 2022.

3. Online Orientation Session.

A briefing webinar will be organized on Wednesday, 1st June 2022, at 10am. 

  • All prospective applicants are welcome to log in for clarifications.

4. Schedule of Fees.

The fee to be paid will depend on the respective academic programme. Details of the

fees will be indicated in the re-admission letter.

5. Provisional Identification Cards.

Provisional Identification Cards (ID) will be provided after the deadline for

registration.

7. Expectations.

  • Participants are required to fully participate in lectures for registered course(s) to be allowed to undertake examination(s).
  • Participants are to abide by the University of Ghana Regulations for Junior Members 2017.

AMNESTY FOR UG GRADUATE STUDENTS.

Basic Qualification.

Applicants should have been admitted to graduate programmes and should have completed final year from 2010/2011 academic year to the present but have since

not been awarded degrees due to elapsed studentship.

Please find below the application process for Prospective General Amnesty:

  1. Expression of Interest.

Applicants who want to take advantage of this opportunity are required to apply through their respective academic units and provide information on the following:

  • When they started the programme.
  • An explanation on why they were unable to complete the programme.
  • Academic records.

The applications for the 2021/2022 academic year will be consistent with the current application for re-admission.

  1. Applications.
  • Applications will be considered on individual basis. If approved, the School will offer amnesty through the re-admission window.
  • The terms and conditions of the re-admission will be spelt out in the re-admission letter which will be issued after submission of completed application forms.
  • Applicants will be provided with University of Ghana email address and PIN after completing the application form.

Registration of Courses.

  •  Applicants are required to register outstanding/failed courses and/or theises/dissertations/long essays/project work. The School of Graduate Studies will assist the applicants to register.
  • Applicants who intend to take courses should kindly note that some of the courses have been phased out. The phased-out courses may be replaced with the new courses after the deadline for registration.
  • Supervisors Of Theises/Dissertations/long May also not be available. Heads of Academic Units will inform the applicants accordingly.
  1. Schedule of Fees.

The fee to be paid will depend on the respective academic programme. Details of the fees will be indicated in the re-admission letter.

  1. Provisional Identification Cards.

Applicants would be provided with Provisional

Identification Cards (ID) after the deadline for registration.

  1. Deadline for Amnesty Course Registration.

The deadline for course registration for the

first semester of the 2021/2022 academic year will be consistent with the deadline for add/drop.

  • Participants will be required to attend lectures in the particular courses) they have registered to re-sit.
